Trip Overview

Chulu East Peak is located north of Annapurna massif. Annapurna region is the second most famous region for trekking. Chulu East peak is one of the easiest peaks climbing un Annapurna region with the stunning and amazing views of snow-capped mountains like Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Nuptse along with Annapurna range. Although Chulu East Peak climbing is graded as less technical peak, we recommend that you have some mountaineering experiences and familiar with the use of mountaineering equipment like cramptoms, harness, ice axe, tying knots and handling climbing knots. From the top of Chulu East peak, observe the stunning and amazing view of Manang valley along with the panoramic view of Annapurna massif. Walking along the forest and crossing several streams and rivers and observing the beautiful villages, following the route of Annapurna circuit the trek ends at Kathmandu. The trek passes the beautiful Manang valley and to a holy place Muktinath. The picturesque landscapes, the beautiful scenery of Himalayan ranges and glaciers makes our effort worth it. Chulu East Peak also covers the trail of Annapurna circuit leading us to Manang to Muktinath. 

Chulu East Peak and the Annapurna Circuit starts from sightseeing in Kathmandu followed by a scenic drive to Chame. Following the route of Annapurna Circuit and passing several villages like Pisang, Julu Khola leads us to Chulu East base Camp. With proper time for acclimatization and rest, passing Chulu East base camp, the trail leads us to Chulu High camp. From high camp, summit at the top of Chulu East Peak and observe the panoramic view of Himalayan range, the beautiful Manang valley and glaciers. We return to Chulu High camp and descend to Manang. Observe the beautiful landscapes, yak grazing pastures, and crossing Thorung La pass at an elevation of 5416m, descend down to a holy place Muktinath. Explore the culture, tradition of local people and also pay homage to at holy place. COntinue walk to Jomsom followed by a scenic drive to Pokhara and drive back to Kathmandu.

The best season for Chulu East Peak Climbing and the Annapurna Circuit trek is during April-May and October- November. The sky remains clear during these seasons offering the best views of Himalayan ranges and glaciers. Rhododendron and many wildflowers blooms during these seasons making the forest more beautiful.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1338m/ 4390 ft.)

Welcome to Nepal. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu meet and greet our representatives from Moonline Tours P. Ltd and transfer to the hotel. Short description of Chulu East Peak Climbing and the Annapurna Circuit enroute. Check-in at the hotel. If you have free time, roam around the streets of Kathmandu in the evening for self-exploration and self-relaxation.

Guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at UNESCO World heritage sites including- Kathmandu Durbar Square; an ancient courtyard with temples and monuments from the 13th to the 15th centuries, Pashupatinath; a holy temple dedicated to Lord Shiva at the bank of Bagmati River, Swayambhunath; an oldest Buddhist stupa at the hillock and the important pilgrimage sites of both Hindus and Buddhists and Boudhanath; the largest Buddhist stupa at the outskirts of Kathmandu. Remaining day free for trek preparation.

Scenic drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar, the headquarter if Lamjung District. Driving along the bank of Trishuli River, observing the diversified landscapes and local settlements leads us to Besisahar. Observe the stunning views of snow-capped mountains from Besisahar and furthermore of drive through the narrow trail and observing the beautiful villages leads us to Chulu. Observe the close-up view of mountains including Langtang range.

From Chame, observe the beautiful view of sunrise over Langtang range. Passing through the beautiful terraced farmlands and the forest of pine and fir, the trail ascends uphill to Brathang village. Following the trail and crossing the bridge, with a view of snow-capped mountains, steep climb uphill leads us to Upper Manang, where you can observe the change in landscapes and vegetation. Walking along the shadowed trail of Annapurna range lead us to Pisang village at an elevation of 3300m. Observe the mesmerizing view of Annapurna range.

Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours

From Pisang, we leave a trail of Annapurna circuit behind and ascends upwards. The steep and gentle climb uphill through scrub of the pine and juniper and the zigzag trail leads us to Gyaru village and furthermore of walking uphill, observing the beautiful views of Annapurna range leads us to Ngawal village. Ngawal village is greater than Gyaru village. The steep and gentle climb uphill, crossing a wooden bridge, passing through the meadows of fir and juniper leads us to Julu Khola and with the stunning and beautiful views of waterfalls leads us to Julu Khola meadow.

Walking Time: 6 to7 hours

Acclimatization is very important during trekking. As you trek from lower altitude to higher altitude, our body needs to adopt the change in climate and altitude to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Since, today is your acclimatization day you can rest full day or short and gentle walk around Julu Khola and explore the culture, tradition and lifestyle of local people. From Julu Khola, the trail ascends steeply uphill. Observing the beautiful waterfalls, the steep climb uphill through snowy trail leads us to Chulu East Base Camp. Observe the first view of Chulu East. As you have reached at an elevation of 5000m, drink as much water to remain dehydrated and to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness.

Walking Time: 4 to 5 hours

From base camp, the trail ascends steeply upwards. Climbing the steep trail leads us to the Chulu East high camp. The trail is snowy and steep and requires more effort to reach at high camp. Short walk up to Chulu East high camp at an elevation of 5500m and remaining day rest at high camp. Observe the close-up views of Chulu East Peak and several glaciers.

Walking Time: 3 Hours

From high camp, climbing the steep slopes leads us to col. The route is difficult as we head towards the top of Chulu East Peak. More effort is required as we are getting more nearer to our destinatination. From the top, observe the majestic and breath-taking views of Annapurna range, Mt. manaslu, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Ganesh Himal, dry Mustang valley and Tibetan plateau. After exploring for some more time, return back to high camp via Col. Following the same route, observing the amazing glaciers, we  return back to High camp. Rest at high camp and overnight at high camp.

Walking Time: 11 to 12 hours

This is an extra day if incase we failed to summit the Chulu East on our planned day due to bad weather condition. In such cases, we will wait for a day to summit in order to get the best views of mountains and valleys.

From high camp, the steep descent with amazing views of glaciers and waterfalls leads us to chulu East base camp. From base camp, the trail descends down through the meadows of Annapurna range, the pine and juniper scrubs seems to visualize. Following the same route that we had used previously leads us to Julu Khola. Roam around Julu Khola and overnight at Julu Khola.

Walking Time: 6 to 7 hours

The trail descends down to Nagwal via Chulu village. Walking along the bank of Marsyangdi river leads us to Mungdi from where the route of Annapurna Circuit rejoins. From Mungdi, the trail ascends uphill through the barren and dry landscapes leading us to Manang at an elevation of 3540m. Roam around Manang and explore the monasteries and gombas around. Explore the culture, tradition and lifestyle of local people.

Walking Time: 6 to 7 hours

Leaving Manang, the trail ascends uphill. The gentle walk leads us to Gangapurna Lake. Observe the stunning view of Gangapurna Lake along with the beautiful views of snow-capped mountains and Annapurna range. Furthermore of ascend trail leads us to the village of Tenki. Crossing a wooden bridge over the river and more ascend uphill leads us to the yak grazing area “ Yak Kharka” at an elevation of 4110m/ Observe yaks and domestic cattle grazing around.

Walking Time: 4 to 5 hours

From Yak Kharka, the trail ascends uphill leading us to Thorong Phedi at an elevation of 4600m. Following the trail ascending uphills leads us to the village of Ledar. Observe the beautiful and mesmerizing views of mountains and yaks and sheep grazing around. The trail now descend down to Jarsang Khola and after crossing the wooden bridge over Jarsang Khola, the trail ascends steeply leading us to Thorong Phedi. Roam around Thorong Phedi in the evening and overnight at Thorong Phedi.

Walking Time: 3 to 4 hours

From Thorong Phedi, we will start our trek early morning to Thorung La pass at an elevation of 5416m. The trail ascends steeply uphill all the way to Thorung la pass with beautiful and colorful prayer’s flags. Observe the panoramic view of mountains like Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Nilgiri, Annapurna range, Chulu West and many others. After observing for some more time, the trail descends towards the valley formed by Kali Gandaki River. After some more descend leads us to one of the holiest places Muktinath; a holy temple of both Hindus and Budhdist. Observe the prayers praying at the temple and explore the monasteries and goombas around. Pay homage to Muktinath as it is believed that by paying homage to Muktinath; all the sins from your past will be washed.

Walking Time: 7 to 8 hours

From Muktinath, following the trail vi Kagbeni leads us to Jomsom. The trail descends downhill providing the beautiful sceneries, passing through the beautiful villages and apple orchards. Jomsom is the capital of Mustang district. Observe the beautiful views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt.Nilgiri from Jomsom.

Walking Time: 4 to 5 hours

From Jomsom, fly to Pokhara. Enjoy a scenic flight from Jomsom and observe the diverse landscapes, beautiful mountain vistas, deepest Kali gandaki gorge and dry and deserted landscapes of Mustang district. Upon arrival at Pokhara airport, check-in at the hotel. Remaining day free for self-exploration and relaxation at Pokhara.

Leaving the beautiful city Pokhara behind, we drive back to Kathmandu. The scenic drive from Pokhara takes 6 to 7 hours to reach the capital city Kathmandu. Observe the diversified landscapes, fast-flowing rivers, local settlements and driving along the bank of Trishuli River leads us to Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, check-in at the hotel. Remaining day free for roaming around Kathmandu.

Free till departure. Our representatives from Moonline Tours P. Ltd will drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport 3 hours prior to your departure schedule/ time in order to board your onward journey.
