Trip Overview

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is an amazing trekking trail of Nepal, specially designed with a combination of the rural and picturesque valley of the Langtang region. The picturesque views of the Himalayan range along with several snow-capped mountains, culture, and lifestyle of local Tamang and Sherpa people and the holiest place; Gosaikunda are the main attractions of Langtang Gosaikunda Trek. Trekking through the dense forest, enjoying the landscapes, exploring the local villages leads us to Gosaikunda at an elevation of 4300m. The trail offers mesmerizing and close-up views of the Himalayan range like Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal and others. People inhabited here are mostly Sherpas and Tamang and follow Buddhism. Observe the monasteries and gumbas en-route with Mani walls and colorful prayer flags that reflect the culture and tradition of local people. 

Langtang Gosaikunda trek starts from sightseeing in Kathmandu at four UNESCO World Heritage Sites including; Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath followed by a scenic drive to Syabru Bensi. From Syabru Bensi, the trek starts and crossing several villages like Lama Hotel, Langtang village leads us to Kyangjin Gompa where we spend 2 days exploring around Kyangjin Gompa. The trail descends down to Lama Hotel from where the trail transverse via Thulo Syabru, Sin Gompa and finally to Gosaikunda; a holy lake of both Buddhist and Hindus. Crossing the Laurebina Yak Pass at an elevation of 4610m, the trail descends down towards Ghopte, Kutumsang, Chisapani and Sundarijal from where we drive back to Kathmandu. The trail passes through Langtang National Park; the first national park of Nepal with an opportunity to spot wild animals and birds.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu.

Welcome to Kathmandu, Nepal. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, meet and greet our representatives from Moonline Tours P. Ltd and transfer to the hotel. Short description of Langtang Gosaikunda trek en-route. Check-in at the hotel. If you have free time, roam around the streets of Kathmandu in the evening.

Guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at four UNESCO World Heritage Sites including- Kathmandu Durbar Square; an ancient courtyard with monuments built in the 13th to 15th century, Pashupatinath; a holy temple of Hindus dedicated to Lord Shiva at the bank of Bagmati River, Swayambhunath; an oldest Buddhist stupa at the outskirts of Kathmandu and an important pilgrimage sites of both Buddhist and Hindus, and Boudhanath; a largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal with the unique octagonal shape. After completion of a sightseeing tour, a short meeting with tour guides and remaining day free for trek preparation as you may need some trekking gears while trekking. Roam around the streets of Kathmandu in the evening.

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi. We have two options to reach Syabru Bensi; One via Kakani and another via Galchhi. Driving along the bank of Trishuli River several times offering the mesmerizing views of Ganesh Himal and other snow-capped mountains and observing the dense green forest, diversified landscapes and dispersed local settlements leads us to Syabru Bensi which will take seven hours by bus. Upon arrival at Syabru Bensi, check-in at the hotel. Explore the culture and traditions of local people.

Driving Time: 7 hours.

Trek starts from Syabru Bensi. Crossing the suspension bridge over the Bhote Koshi River that flows from Tibet and walking along the bank of Langtang Khola leads us to Gompa of Guru Rinpoche. The trail ascends uphill via stone stair-case along the Langtang Khola and crossing another suspension bridge, the trail ascends towards the beautiful village of Bamboo. Passing through sub-tropical forest of Oaks, Maple, Fir, Blue pine and Rhododendron with a chance to spot wild animals and birds like Himalayan Black Bear, Wild Boar including endangered Red Panda and Danfe the trail ascends gently to Rimche; a village at the bank of Langtang Khola, leading us to Lama Hotel at an elevation of 2500m. Remaining day free for relaxation.

The trail starts with a gentle climb that becomes steeper as we move ahead. Passing through the forest of Oaks, Maple, pink and red Rhododendron above the Langtang Khola with a glimpse of snow-capped mountains and crossing a wooden log bridge, the trail ascends to Ghodatabela; means horse stable. The trail gradually ascends as the valley widens and passing several water-driven mills, observing the beautiful Mani walls and colorful prayer flags en-route leads us to Langtang Village at an elevation of 3307m. Langtang village is headquarter of Langtang National Park and the village has flat-roofed Tibetan style houses. The Langtang village is surrounded by stone walls and terraced farmlands. Observe the Yaks and goats grazing nearby.

From Langtang village, the trail climbs a ridge topped by a large chorten. Passing through the beautiful Mani walls, crossing a stream leads us to Mundu village. Crossing several small streams on wooden bridges leads us to Kyangjin Gompa; the largest monastery of the Langtang region. Observe the dramatic icefall flowing from the peaks of Langtang Lirung and Kimshung. Explore around Kyangjin Gompa and observe the Yak cheese factory, stunning views of Langtang Lirung, Kyangjin RI, Tsergo RI, and Dorje Lakpa among others.

Walking Time: 4 hours.

As today is exploration day at Kyangjin Gompa, a short hike to Kyangjin RI at an elevation of 4350m and observe the close-up views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang range, Kinshung, etc. Return to Kyangjin Gompa and explore the monastery, gompa along with culture, tradition, and lifestyle of local people.

Leaving the beautiful Kyangjin Gompa behind, following the same trail we descend down to Lama Hotel. Passing through the dense forest of Oaks, Maple, and Rhododendron and walking along the bank of Langtang Khola several times, crossing several suspension bridges and passing through the beautiful villages of Mundu, Langtang Village, Ghodatabela leads us to lama Hotel.

The trail gently descends down to the landslide area and then passing through Juniper and Pine forest steeply uphill leads us to Thulo Syabru. The trail offers magnificent views of untouched natural beauty along with a chance to spot Boars, Monkeys and even endangered Red Pandas and various species of birds. Thulo Syabru is a wonderful village that preserves the ethnic customs, culture, and traditions along with amazing landscapes and magnificent views of the Langtang range. Explore around Thulo Syabru in the evening.

The trail gently ascends as we move ahead from Thulo Syabru. Passing through Dursagang, observe the breathtaking views of Langtang range along with Ganesh Himal and Tibetan mountain. The trail continues steeply through the forest of oak, hemlock and Rhododendron and pastures leads to the top of the ridge at Phoparng Danda. Observing the wild animals’ enroute, the trail further ascends uphill for a while and follows a flat standard that leads us to Sin Gompa at an elevation of 3250m. Explore the yak cheese factory, monasteries, gumbas and culture, and lifestyle of local people.

Walking Time: 5 hours.

From Sin Gompa, the trail climbs steeply up till we reach Lauri Binayak. Passing through the moist mountain forest and dry scrub vegetation on the slopes that offer a chance to spot Red Pandas and the stunning view of Ganesh Himal and following the rough and rocky route with mesmerizing views of mountain ranges like Manaslu range, Langtang range, and Ganesh Himal range. Crossing a small ridge, get the first glimpse of Gosaikunda Lakes. There are dozens of lakes in Gosaikunda Basin, the main three being Saraswatikunda, Ganeshkunda, and Gosaikunda. Gosaikunda is a holy place of both Hindus and Buddhist and there are many myths. Gosaikunda is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites and every year during the full moon festival of August many people visit Gosaikunda.

The trail climbs steeply up leaving Gosaikunda Lake behind. Following the rough and rocky route leads us to Lauribinayak pass at an elevation of 4610m, the ultimate elevation of Langtang Gosaikunda Trek. Observe the stunning views of mountain ranges like Manaslu range, Langtang range, Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung from the top of the pass. After exploring for some more time, the trail descends down towards Ghopte.

Walking Time: 6 hours.

From Ghopte, the trail ascends uphill to Tharepati through the forest of Pine and Juniper. From Tharepati, the trail descends through the forest of Fir and Rhododendron offering beautiful views of mountain ranges. Following the trail leads us to Kutumsang village. Explore the culture and lifestyle of local people.

Walking Time: 5 hours.

The trail descends through the delightful hill village of Gul Bhanjyang. Following the trail ascending up that leads us to Thodang Betini and furthermore of walking downhill, we will reach Pati Bhanjyang. Exploring the landscapes and local villages of Brahmin and Chhetri leads us to Chisapani at an elevation of 2110m. Observe the stunning views of snow-capped mountains.

Walking Time: 6 hours.

Leaving Chisapani behind, the trail descends down through Rhododendron and oak forest that leads us to Mulkharka and observes the spectacular view of Kathmandu valley. Descending down through the forest leads us to Sundarijal and drive to Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, check-in at the hotel. Remaining day free for self-relaxation and pleasure.
