Rara Lake is one of the most beautiful and largest lakes in Nepal. Located at an elevation of 3062m, at Jumla and Mugu District, Rara Lake is one of the famous destinations for adventure lovers as well as nature lovers. Rara Lake lies in Rara National Park which is one of the most attractive national parks to observe the diverse wildlife. The National Park consists of several blue pines, black juniper, oak, and rhododendron forest. The forest is home for various species of animals like Himalayan Black Bear, Red Panda, Leopards, Thar, etc and more than 200 species of birds. Rara Lake is also known as the “Queen of Lakes”. 

Rara Lake Trek starts from sightseeing at the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath and Boudhanath. Crossing the Ghurchi Lagna Pass at an elevation of 3450m, the ultimate destination of Rara Lake Trek. Following the trail leads us to Jumla and fly to Nepalgunj and Kathmandu. Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu

Welcome to Kathmandu, Nepal. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu meets and greet our representatives from Moonline Tours P. Ltd and transfer to the hotel. Check-in at the hotel and if you have free time, roam around the streets of Kathmandu in the evening.

Guided sightseeing at UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu including; Kathmandu Durbar square- an ancient courtyard with temples and monuments from the 13th to the 15th centuries, Pashupatinath- a holy temple of Hindus dedicated to Lord Shiva at the bank of Bagmati River, Swayambhunath- oldest Buddhist shrine at the hillock and an important pilgrimage sites of both Hindus and Buddhist and Boudhanath- a largest Buddhist Stupa at the outskirts of Kathmandu with more than 200 monks praying around. After sightseeing, short meeting with our tour guide and short description of Rara Lake Trek. Roam around Kathmandu in the evening.

Enjoy a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj; the popular industrial and transportation hub on the Banke region in the far western region of Nepal. Explore the multi-ethnic Nepalgunj city and explore the culture, tradition, and lifestyle of people of the Terai region. Roam around the local market in the evening.

Enjoy early morning flight to Jumla, the gateway for trekkers in the foothills of Sisne Himal. Upon arrival at Jumla, trek to Chala Chaur at an elevation of 2900m. The trail ascends slowly and passing through the traditional market Khalanga Bazaar and several other villages and temples lead us to Chere Chaur. Furthermore of walking ahead through the forest of Rhododendron, birch and pine forest and observing the splendid views of Kanjiroba Himal leads us to Chala Chaur.

From Chala Chaur, the trail ascends uphill along the steep stone path and crossing birch, pine, rhododendron and grassy pass. Observing the marvelous views of Kanjiroba Himal in the east. The trail descends down to lush forests and after trekking for some more time, we will reach a suitable campsite.

Following the bank of Jaljala Khola through pine forest and terraced farmlands and passing the old Kanaksundari temple; a holy and religious place of Hindus the route further bends along the main river. Crossing the wooden bridge over the river, the trail descends down leading us to Sinja village at an elevation of 2440m. Sinja village is located at the bank of Sinja Khola. Furthermore of walking ahead along the bank of Sinja Khola and passing through the spectacular gorge leads us to the village of Botan at an elevation of 2600m. Roam around Botan in the evening.

Leaving the beautiful Botan village behind, walking through the bank of Ghatta Khola observing the stunning and picturesque sceneries and landscapes lead us to the beautiful valley. Following the trail leads us to the border of Rara National Park. Explore the unique flora and fauna in Rara National Park and roam around the Gorosingha village in the evening.

Overnight at Gorosingha.

From Gorosingha, the trail ascends uphill with a steep climb along the side of Chuchamare Danda. Observe the stunning views of the Himalayan range with magnificent deep blue serene Rara Lake surrounded by green hills. Enjoying the scenery, the trail enters a forested route leading us to Majghat and following the Khatyar River leads us to Chhapri village; a headquarter of Rara National Park. Furthermore of walking ahead following the trail leads us to the beautiful and majestic Rara Lake at an elevation of 3062m. The beauty of the lake and the majestic view of mountain ranges it offers are the main attraction of Rara Lake.

Explore Rara Lake along with its surroundings. Explore the unique flora and fauna of Rara National Park and witness the color-changing water of Rara Lake as the color of water of Rara Lake changes 3 times a day. Explore around the old and local villages and the culture, tradition, and lifestyle of local people.

Leaving the beautiful Rara Lake behind, we move ahead Jhyari at an elevation of 2630m. Following the trail and crossing the ridge leads us to Jhyari village and gradual walk along the bank of Jhyari Khola through the terraced farmlands leads us to Dhauligar Khola valley. Observe the mesmerizing views of snow-capped mountains and enjoy the picturesque sceneries.

Overnight at River Camp.

From River camp, the trail ascends uphill to Ghruchi Lagna pass through terraced farmlands leading us to the village of Pina. Continue climbing to Ghruchi Lagna pass and observe small chortens, alpine-like pastures, and a narrow valley. The trail descends downhill leading us to the village of Chautha at an elevation of 2770m. Explore the village in the evening.

Overnight at Chautha.

Following the trail from the northern bank of Simja Khola passing the hotels and health post at the Kabra village and observing the diversified landscape and terraced farmlands, the trail passes through the villages of Bumra and Nyawre. The trail climbs all the way to the pasture at Tharamara at an elevation of 3280m.

Overnight at Tharamara.

The trail ascends gently upwards from Tharamara. Passing through the tall birch trees enroute leads us to Khali Lagna and Danphe Lekh. Observe the spectacular view of snow-capped mountains in the south and Jumla below. The trail gently descends downhill following the same trail leading us to Jumla. Explore around the market of Jumla in the evening.

Overnight at Jumla.

From Jumla, fly back to Nepalgunj. Upon arrival at Nepalgunj airport, fly back to Kathmandu. Observe the aerial view of diversified landscape, mountain ranges, and hills. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel. Roam around the streets of Kathmandu in the evening if you have free time.
