Mustang, Jomsom, Poonhill Trek

Trip Overview

A shangrila in the Himalayas, with an amazing culture, stunning landscape, nomadic communities and  a lot more to experience. This amazing journey will surely be a privilege, to visit the exotic land beyond the Himalayas.

Mustang located in the Trans-Himalayan region just north of central greater Himalaya popularly known as Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The district is well known for its pristine biodiversity and spectacular scenery. Mustang comprises the world’s deepest gorge between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan ranges.and consists of Several caves, forts, monasteries, temples, chhortens and mane, some of which are dated back to 4000 B.C. The natural beauty and cultural heritage and grandeur have played a crucial role in making mustang one of the most popular trekking destinations of the world. Trekking around Jomsom and Muktinath, we can view the beautiful panoramic view of the Annapurna Himalayan range and Dhaulagiri along with other mega snow-capped mountains.

Our trip will begin with a 7 hour drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, and then a short mountain flight to jomsom, (Capital city of Mustang district). We start our trek from this point on, heading towards Kagbeni which is a beautiful small village which gives us a glimpse of Tibetan highlands. We then reach towards Muktinath Temple which is an ancient temple of Mustang. Muktinath Temple holds a lot of significance in the historical and cultural importance both to Hindus and Buddhist.

Continuing our trek we lead to Tatopani where you will be enjoying the natural hot spring pool. We then head towards  Ghorepani village and then hike towards the popular poonhill view point where we can enjoy the magnificent Annapurna Himalayan range, Dhaulagiri and many more. Finally we descend up to Nayapul and take a drive to Pokhara and return our way back to Kathmandu.


The best time for the Trek:

Any season is best for this trek as this region lies in rain shadow area, and we can view different nature sceneries in each different season as well. However, the idea season for this trek are spring(March to may) and Autumn(September to mid December). We can enjoy stunning views along with good weather in this season.

Necessary information:

This trek follows  through amazing routes, with stunning Himalayan background and unique culture.  There are some necessary information you need to know to be prepared for the trek; The route in some parts are very windy as strong winds blows  across the valley and sometimes route becomes impossible to Pass. It is very essential for trekkers to carry full head mask, wind cheater jacket, sunglasses, and some more according to your needs and comfortability.


Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu (1350m)

Namastey and a warm welcome to Nepal. Once you land in the Tribhuvan International airport in Kathmandu Nepal, one of our representatives will be waiting for your presence to accompany you to your respective hotel. You will have some free time left once you reach in your hotel which you can utilize to freshen up yourself and take a quick stroll around the busy streets of Kathmandu.

You will currently be in the cultural hub and the capital city; Kathmandu. Kathmandu is popular for it’s rich cultural heritages and its historical background. Today we will visit some of the most significant and must visit places in Kathmandu which includes Swayambhunath stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Boudhhanath Stupa. Or we can also provide you with an alternative option of travelling to two other beautiful Durbar square at nearby cities; Patan and Bhaktapur upon your request.

In this day we will also prepare necessary things for our amazing trek, so after our sightseeing tour you will be meeting with your trekking leader who will ensure and check if all trekkers are ready and all required  trekking gears have  been acquired.

We now enjoy our breakfast and drive to Pokhara. Bus ride will be about 6 to 7 hours drive in a tourist bus to the super cool city of pokhara where we will be having quick stops and breakfast on the road at a good quality restaurant. We will arrive at pokhara  around 2 pm and our guide will also be together with you. As we would have sometime in Pokhara you can also use the remaining time for a short half day tour.

We would start our day early,have our meal and head for the airport for our flight to Jomsom. After reaching Jomsom our adventure begins as we start trekking here. We begin  walking our way across the broad river valleys with the himalayan background. We will experience different topography as we will ascend to higher altitude. We will gradually reach  kagbeni viewing the differently beautiful landscapes, Culture, Local monasteries and Gumba's.

Today we will be our most important day as we will be visiting Famous Pilgrimage site of Muktinath. Muktinath  is referred to as Nirvana, and it is believed that you shall feel relieved and peace of mind and soul while visiting this pilgrimage site. Muktinath Temple is temple of Lord Vishnu and it has 108 water sprouts surrounding the area.

Walking Duration: 4 to 5 hours.

As the area is surrounded by great himalayan ranges we will get to experience amazing Panoramic view of Mountains, especially the view would be marvelous in the morning. After a short while of our breakfast and necessary preparation we shall begin today’s journey which will mostly be downhill, our trek will follow towards marpha which is a  popular settlement with very unique designs of house  and monuments  and own style of culture. Marpha  is also a popular destination for delicious apples, so do remember to try organic apples of the place. We will visit around marpha village and nearby monastery.

Walking Duration: 4 to 5 Hours.

Marpha is one of the peaceful and refreshing destination and we can feel the energy all around the environment as the place is quiet,  clean, bright,and lots of monasteries and there’s  not another awesome place than marpha to start the morning. We start our day after having our meal and will trek downhill towards local settlement called Dana where we will be enjoying our lunch.  We will also be experiencing deepest gorge in the world,”Kali gandaki”. After 2  hours walk to Kalopani we will get the view of amazing view of the Nilgiri peak.

Walking Duration: 3 to 4 hours.

Today we will be slow downhill trekking to Tatopani. Today is also a relaxing day at the end as when we reach Tatopani we will be relaxing in natural hot spring.

Walking duration:  4 to 5 hours.

We will be ascending to 1600m to Ghorepani. We will pass through villages of many ethnic groups, experiencing different lifestyle, culture and house style and more in a short distance. We will be getting a different view of Mt.  Dhaulagiri, Mt. Nilgiri and Mt Annapurna

O/N  stay at Local lodge in Tatopani.

Walking duration: 3 to  4 hours.

Poonhill is one of the most popular destination due to it’s perfect location at hilltop, where we  can view Himalayan ranges clearly. Poonhill surely lives up to it’s name.  We wake up early and start walking before sunrise in the dark  to view the magical sunrise in Poonhill. In a short while, you would feel the experience of a lifetime as the mountains come alive when the sunrays harmonizes with The Great mountain ranges(Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Tukuche, Machhapuchhare Himal and few others). We will enjoy this magical moment for a while and then return to our lodge in Ghorepani.

We will then enjoy our breakfast and head towards Tadapani via beautiful road of rhododendron forest blossoming during spring season.

Walking duration: 5 to 6 hours.

Ghandruk is one of the most beautiful villages in Nepal which is filled with beautiful houses, cultural diversity, and amazing Himalayan Background.Today the whole route is very beautiful as the path is filled with stunning Himalayan views, refreshing walk, through rhododendron trees, and lot  more. Gurung museum is another attraction here at ghandruk which will give you information about history, tradition and lifestyle.

Accomodation Local Lodge.

Walking duration: 3 to 4 hours.

Our trekking days would finally come to an end today. We will trek towards Nayapul and then take a short dive to Pokhara. It will be a downhill trek and it will end at Nayapul. After an hour of a drive we will arrive at Pokhara.

O/N stay at Pokhara

Walking duration: 4 to 5 hours with 1 hour drive.

We will take a drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu and concluding our awesome trek. We will assist you in checking into hotel after arriving at Kathmandu and also invite you for farewell dinner at one of the cultural restaurants in Kathmandu.

Tourist Bus ride:  6 to 7 hours of comfortable ride

Note: After returning from Jomsom and Muktinath trek you will have an option to extend your trip for other activities such as Jungle safari, white safari, white water rafting, paragliding and many other activities along with other sightseeing tours to Bhaktapur, patan or any other destination. Please let us know, if you would require us for managing your further plans, we will surely make the best of the travel experience.

You wll leave with memories of a lifetime, in the mystical Himalayan lands as the Jomsom Muktinath Trekking program in Nepal concludes today. You will enjoy your breakfast in Kathmandu and then our representatives shall transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport 3 hours prior to  your scheduled flight.
