Trip Overview

Everest Gokyo Lake Trek is trek at Gokyo; a holy place for both Hindus and Buddhist people is one of the most beautiful journeys in Nepal with the scenic views of mountains including Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, etc as well as explore the culture of the Sherpa people. Everest Gokyo Lake Trek is considered as one of the most challenging trekking trails of Everest Region as compared to Everest Base Camp Trek. For trekking, one must be physically fit and mentally prepared to overcome any kind of obstacle during the trekking period.

Everest Gokyo Lake Trek starts from sightseeing in Kathmandu; the culturally rich valley of Nepal and after 35 minutes of mountain flight to Lukla, hike to Phakding. Crossing the forested area of blue pine and Rhododendron trees leads to Namche Bazar; the gateway to Everest. Explore Buddhist monasteries and observe the lifestyle of Sherpa people on the way to Gokyo valley. Hike to Gokyo Lake to observe the mesmerizing view of Glaciers, lakes and mountain ranges, and back to Namche Bazaar via Dole and fly back to Kathmandu. Exploring the stunning views of Gokyo Lake, magnificent view of mountains above 8000m, high lush valleys of Khumbu valley are the unique features.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1338m/ 4390 ft.)

Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, meet and greet our representatives and transfer to the hotel. Short description en route to the hotel about your journey to Everest Gokyo Lake Trek.

Overnight at Kathmandu.

Guided sightseeing tour at four UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu; Kathmandu Durbar Square- rich in culture and traditions, Pashupatinath- a holy place of Lord Shiva, Boudhanath- the largest Buddhist stupa and Swayambhunath- a stupa at top of the hill and the oldest Buddhist stupa. 

In the evening, a short meeting with our representatives regarding your journey to Everest Gokyo Lake trek. Roam around the streets of Kathmandu.

Overnight at Kathmandu.

Early morning 35 min mountain flight to Lukla and enjoy the mesmerizing mountain views including the World Highest Mountain Mt. Everest. Upon arrival at Lukla, get ready for further journey walking alongside the bank of Dudh Koshi River and crossing several suspension bridges. Enjoy the diversified landscape and ascend uphill leads to Phakding (2652m/ 8700 ft). Phakding, a small Sherpa village with many Buddhist monasteries.

Walking Time: 3 to 4 hours.

This day, you will walk through the bank of Dudh Koshi River via a long suspension bridge. Passing beautiful forest area of blue pine and Rhododendron trees, you will reach Monjo; the Gateway to Sagarmatha National Park. You need to complete some formalities here before entering National Park. En route to Namche Bazaar, you will witness different and unique flora and fauna and walking steep uphill from Jorsale leads you to Namche Bazaar (3440m/ 11283 ft), one of the biggest Sherpa village of Khumbu region also the Gateway to Everest.

Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours.

Since this is your acclimatization day, get ready for a short hike to Everest View Hotel from where you can observe the close-up view of mountains above 8000m including Mt. Everest. You can also observe the diversified landscape and enjoy walking at Sagarmatha National Park. Return back to Namche bazaar and roam around Namche Bazaar.

Walking Time: 4 to 5 hours.

Gokyo Lake trek and Everest base camp trek route separate from Namche bazaar. The route leads through jungle walk in between Rhododendron trees, blue pine, and juniper trees. We can witness unique and endangered flora and fauna en route and also get an opportunity to witness the confluence of two rivers; Dudh Koshi and Imja Khola and many melting glaciers. Passing through yak pastures and Sherpa villages, we finally reach Dole (4200m/ 13780 ft.). From Dole, we can clearly observe the Himalayan ranges.

Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours.

From Dole, you will trek up to Machhermo (4470m/ 14663 ft.). The route ascends uphill to Labharma and you will observe the nice and beautiful view of Himalaya’s en route. Take rest on the way till you reach to Machhermo, a Sherpa village from where you can witness beautiful and picturesque view of Cho Oyu along with other peaks.

Walking Time: 4 to 5 hours.

Today we head towards Gokyo, the ultimate destination of our journey Everest Gokyo Lake Trek. You can enjoy landscapes en route and can observe many snow-capped mountains. Passing through local Himalayan settlement and rocky path, you will reach at first Gokyo lake Longpongo and furthermore walk leads you to Taboche Tso which is considered as second Gokyo Lake and further pushing forward leads you to Gokyo Cho Among these three lakes, Gokyo Cho is considered the main holy place and also known as Dudh Kunda. The beautiful Gokyo valley lies on its eastern shore.

Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours.

Acclimatization means the process of becoming accustomed to a new climate. Since Gokyo is situated at an elevation of 4800m, acclimatization is very important. Since this is your acclimatization day, short hike to Gokyo 4th Lake; Thonak Cho and 5th Lake from where you can get a close-up view of snow-capped mountains including Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, etc and observe the largest Ngozumpa glacier. Return back to Gokyo and roam around Gokyo valley.

Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours.

Start your day hiking at Gokyo RI (5375m/ 16750 ft.); the highest elevation of Everest Gokyo Lake Trek. Enjoy the spectacular views of Mountains above 8000m including Mt. Everest and crystal clear water of Gokyo lakes. After spending some time at Gokyo RI, descend down to Dole via Machhermo. Observing the beautiful landscape and Himalayan settlement, you will reach at Dole.

Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours.

The trail descends downhill as we start our journey from Dole. Passing through the beautiful waterfalls, observing the flora and fauna and reviving the views of snow-capped mountains leads you to Mongla. The trail descends passing Sansa that connects us to the Everest Base Camp trekking route and furthermore of the walk leads you to Namche bazaar; the Gateway of Everest. Roam around Namche bazaar in the evening.

Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.
Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours.

Start your trek descending downhill to Dudh Koshi River leading you to Monjo; the Gateway of Sagarmatha National Park passing through the forested area of pine, juniper and Rhododendron trees. Crossing several suspension bridges on the way and walking along the Dudh Koshi River leads you to Jorsale. After 1 to 2 hours of walking on the flat highlands, you will reach Lukla.

Overnight stay at Lukla.
Walking time: 6 to 7 hours.

This is your last day of Everest Gokyo Lake Trek as you will fly from Lukla to Kathmandu. Don’t forget to observe the aerial view of mountain ranges along with the diversified landscape while boarding. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your respective hotel.  The remaining day you can roam around the streets of Kathmandu or do shopping.

This is an extra day for you in case you couldn’t catch your flight or something else that cannot be predicted.
