Trip Overview

Mera peak summit climb is the highest trekking peak in Nepal. At the height of 6461m/21,190ft, we will get to experience astonishing views of the Himalayan Vista. 5 of the 8000m above peaks visible from the summit which includes Mount Everest, Lhotse, Cho oyu, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga. It is situated at the edge of the popular khumbu region.

Mera peak is a perfect option for climbers with moderate mountaineering experience, and also suitable for people looking to summit their first Himalayan Peak. People would still require training,and basic technical mountaineering skills as it is a challenging trekking peak as it is a high-altitude trek and climb. The participants would need to be fit and be comfortable and skilled in use of ice-axe and crampons. Moonline’s sherpa guide will provide you with required basic mountaineering training before the summit climb.

The climb gets you view of the north face glacier in a controlled rise to the summit ridge, creating exciting environment at the top. After you climb the mountain, you will return through a direct route across a ridge to Lukla, and flight back to Kathmandu. We have arranged Itinerary for Mera peak which is designed carefully with stable ascent, and maintaining required days for acclimatization.  

This trip can be organized as a tented accommodation in camps or tea house/guesthouse which would be comparatively cheaper than camping. However our accommodation at high/base camp for 1 or 2 days will be in tent, due to no availability of lodges.

You should also note about the weather, as the weather cannot be predicted in the Himalayas. Weather can change in few hours, which is why we have arranged a contingency day to act as a backup day, so you can summit the peak the following day, if the weather gets bad.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m)

Kathmandu - the cultural hub city and the gateway to the Himalayas. Also known as the “city of temples” for preserving its historical uniquely designed temples. Our representative will be waiting for you at the arrival terminal at the airport. You will be greeted and will be welcomed in our Nepali way, and then you will be transferred to the hotel for your stay. You will have some free time left which you can utilize by strolling around the city area.

You will be enjoying your breakfast and be ready to explore some of the significant and historical UNESCO World heritage sights of Kathmandu valley. You will begin your sightseeing tour from Swoyambunath stupa situated in a hilltop. You will get to see panoramic view of the whole valley with beautiful Himalayas in the background. Then we will visit bouddhanath stupa. It is the largest stupa in Nepal surrounded by gumbas and market full of precious stones, thankas, paintings, and more. You will be moving ahead to Pashupatinath, it is the most significant temple for hindus. And lastly you will visit the historical and culturally significant Kathmandu durbar square. The whole area is full of magneficiently designed pagoda styled temples, palaces and idols of gods and goddesses. We will conduct a scheduled pre-trip meeting which will let you to meet your guide and share informations about your trek plans.

Leaving the cultural hub city Kathmandu we will be taking a scenic flight to lukla where you will get to view the beautiful mountain scenery. Lukla at an altitude of 2800m above sea level is 138 kilometers away from Kathmandu at northeast direction and the flight will be about 40-minute flight. Lukla is also considered as the gateway to the everest region of Nepal. After collecting luggage with the crew, you will start walking to reach the amazing Khumbu valley. You will instantly get to experience cultural and natural  diversity throughout the trail. Hiking for about 4 hours you shall reach Chutang which is the stop for the day. As the location is at the height of 3475 m you would require right amount of rest and acclimatization.

Being up close to the Himalayas can be a dream for people, but they should also be aware about the risk of the high altitude. You would require enough rest and time to adjust to sudden change in altitude, so you will be taking this day for acclimatizing at Chutang. People need to be able to adjust with surrounding environment where the oxygen level is lower. As the body would not be getting required amount of Oxygen for the body to function, it may lead to severe health related hazards if not taken care of properly. So this is why Acclimatization is very crucial to trek in high altitude areas.

Although you are staying in the same place for the day, Chutang is a beautiful place so you can spend the day hiking around the areas.

You will get to feel new experience from this this day onward as we will be heading towards Thuli Kharka through high Himalayan pass which is called Zatra la pass at an altitude of 4,600m above  sea level. It is a high uphill climb so you need to be prepared mentally and physically to trek in the freezing temperature. The weather might be harsh and unpredictable which is why you may also require using gears and equipments to reach to top of Zatra la pass.  And walking our way further we reach Thuli kharka.

Waking up to the shining mountain sceneryis truly a dream for some. Today we head towards Kothe village. The trekking trail is very beautiful today as you cross through three hill ridges, and beautiful rivers, waterfalls along the way. Photographers are in treat as the scenery along the trail is filled with verdant forest, with Himalayan background making a superb scenery for nature lovers. You will also be seeing first look of the Mera peak today. Finally we reach Kothe village which has several stone built lodges for accommodation.

Walking up hill and, slowly rising in height of the destination today we reach Thangnag. It would be bit difficult than other days. You would enjoy your breakfast and start your journey for the day. Our path today would be steep ascent trail with lots of changes in the environment. Walking for around 6 hours we reach Thangnag village where we can get close up view of Mera La, Kusum Knagguru and peak 43.

We climb much higher today reaching 5000m altitude above sea level. Enjoying our breakfast we move towards abother Himalayan village. Moving through ridges made up of debris which are deposited at the sides of dig glacier. We can get beautiful views of charpate himal, and north face of the potent Mera Peak. We reach our final stop for the day that is Khare village. As the place is in high altitude it is likely for travelers to feel exhausted and tired.

Trekkers need to take a full day for acclimatizing when going in high altitude, and khare is  at the height of 5000m above the sea level. Not taking a full day stop, could cause High altitude Sickness to the trekkers. So this day would be utilized for acclimatizing for preparing your body to adjust according to the altitude. You can utilize the day by practicing the use of several equipments and gears for your Mera peak climb. Our climbing leader will help you and provide you with essential information regarding safety,proper use of equipments, and techniques for climbing.

Waking up directly with the sunrise views of the golden mountains is truly an experience of a lifetime. Today is the day we reach Mera Peak Base camp, the route today is challenging as you would have to walk through Mera La Pass. Enjoying our breakfast we hike our way through steep trail, and reaching snows are scattered around the trail. You then move at a height of 5400m at the top of Mera La pass and then you will descend for a short distance, finally reaching at the base camp of Mera Peak.

The weather would be very cold and freezing today. We check today’s weather and if the weather is good we will reach the Mera High Camp. The trail is quite slippery and dangerous, so we need to be very careful and cautious while moving through the trail towards Mera High Camp. The trails would be snowy with temperature very cold and freezing. After steep climbing of around 4 -5 hours we reach at High camp. Walking Duration: 4 – 5 hours

Today we reach our goal, which is getting to the summit of Mera Peak. You will wake up at 2 am,enjoy your breakfast and make your way towards the summit. Everyone in the group will be ready by putting on crampons and rope up before setting out towards the summit. It would take around 3 – 4 hours to get towards the central summit of Mera peak, but do keep in mind the time duration depends upon your physical fitness and acclimatization level. If we have enough time, with the decision of trip leader as per the conditions, we may make our way towards slightly higher north summit. We can the most magneficient views of Mt. Everest (8,848m), Cho oyu(8,201m), Lhotse(8,516m), Makalu(8,463m), Kanchenjunga(8,586m), Nuptse(7,855m), and many other great mountains which can be seen beautifully from the summit. We enjoy our success and then head towards Khare.

We have added this day as a contingency day, as if the weather is not stable and we cannot make our way towards the summit the day before, we will have to use this day to make our way towards the summit. As the weather and conditions up in the Himalayas are not stable, and in case we postpone our attempt to summit the peal, this day would act as a back up to reach our goal towards the summit.

Enjoying our success and spending the night at khare  you will head downwards at Kothe. We all wil be enjoying our success relaxing and enjoying foods and drinks at Kothe.

Walking through the west side of Hinku river valley, trails are filled with blooming rhododendrons, green forest and finally reaching Thuli Kharka. The total duration of walking would be around 6 hours.

Thuli Kharka is below the Zatra- La pass, you would walk upto 2 hours to reach the pass. Yo can also enjoy amazing views of the surrounding valleys which also includes Lukla valley. You can get mesmerizing views of Cho yu,Mt Numbut, Kongde peak and many more. We then head down to Chutanga. The trail today is very easy compared to the long treks in difficult terrains we had before. We finally end our trek today after reaching the beautiful Lukla village. We will also be enjoying and celebrating the success of climbing the summit, and the whole beautiful journey itself. With an amazing experience in the Himalayas,nature, and the biodiversity today we return to the city life. We enjoy our breakfast and head towards Kathmandu from Pokhara. Our representative will be waiting for you at the airport, where he will be accompanying you towards your hotel. You can relax, rest and enjoy your time in the hotel.  You can also do shopping in the thamel area, as this is your last day here in Nepal. In the evening we will be providing you with a farewell dinner in a typical nepali restaurant, marking an end to a beautiful experience here in Nepal.

As the beautiful trip ends today, one of our representatives will drop you at the Kathmandu international airport for your flight departure from Nepal.
